1971 Schwinn Grey Ghost Original Krate

The Month and Year is E=May, G=1971. The ONLY correct year for a Grey Ghost. This is the most rare bike of the Krate series and the most coveted. You see GREY GHOST that are always a repaint but hardly ever do you see ORIGINAL PAINT. I have seen "repaints" and "it really was a Ghost". There are more Grey Ghost Krates out on the market than ever were produced by Schwinn and most seem to be repaints. This one is not mint but the chrome has NO RUST and the chips add to the authenticity of the bike. Someone did touch-up a few of the chips with no success and stopped. This happened over 10 years ago since I know a collector had the bike over 11 years and it was not touched. An ORIGINAL seat including reflector in this kind of shape is simply NEVER found! The ORIGINAL FENDERS are a solid 9 on the bike too and you don’t see that often enough on these KRATES. The rest of the chrome is a solid 8-9 if not higher and the paint is about a 6-7. The ONLY thing I added was the pedals, which are MINT, and the repo RWL rear tire. I hated to do it but I couldn’t find the original tire although they are out there used if you want one. Everything is dated correctly for this bike, bars, stem, cranks, frame, hub, single knurled rear side stamped S-2 and yes it has safety edge fenders. The only argument you may have is the pedals and I can include the original yellow reflectors which are said to be correct for this month production GREY GHOST. I have not molested this bike nor has anyone else. When is the last time you have seen an ORIGINAL PAINT GREY GHOST with a very good chainguard? This bike has NO RUST! I will pack it and wrap it up and ship it like it was a baby, it will show up insured for more than enough as you could not replace it if you could find one. We are not here to make it look better than it really is because we like this bike and all our bikes to be original!   On Sale for $1800 SOLD
